This project was the renovation of a humble 50’s era tract house with a daylight basement in Bellevue, Washington. The client’s goal was to create a first floor master suite, a pocket office, and to rework the formal rooms including a major kitchen remodel. The downstairs needed to accommodate two bedrooms and bathroom for the kids, as well as a large family room.
The solution was to utilize space under a covered rear deck that was a previous addition. A new eat-in kitchen pushed out back giving the formal rooms more space. This reconnected the house to the generous back yard. Space for a downstairs bath was carved out of an existing storage shed below the rear deck.
The result blended the incompatible style of the original house and existing rear deck structure to create a thoroughly modern house with mid-century style.
