This project was completed for good friends in phases over several years. All three levels of the home were reimagined. A new garage and backyard living area were also created. The home began as a classic Wallingford bungalow with small rooms, low ceilings and cramped hallways with numerous doors.
The main living level remodel eliminated a ground floor bedroom to make room for a larger modern kitchen. This move created clear circulation paths and a large modern open “great room concept”, while maintaining the classic feel of the existing dining and living rooms. The massive living room fireplace was saved and made a focal point. A new ¾ bath was created, as well as much needed storage. The cramped closed-in stair was opened up to both up and downstairs.
The second-floor remodel eliminated a sauna to add a third bedroom and second bath and allowed room to create a true master suite. The basement remodel divided a large unfinished space to create a guest bedroom, laundry, storage and large entertainment/family room. Lastly and most recently, the back yard was transformed. A dilapidated garage was replaced and new hardscape and landscape were added to create a multilevel outdoor living space that maximizes the usability of the steep hillside location and creates intimate gathering spaces.
Overall, this 100-year-old bungalow has been updated to a modern-day lifestyle, without losing any of the classic bungalow style and charm.
