The Prairie project is located in the historic Kenwood neighborhood in Chicago less than a mile from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie house. The design goal for this project was to create distinctive row houses that honor Frank Lloyd Wright.
Two six-unit buildings mirror around a semi-public pedestrian/motor court. A masonry base supports modulated stucco volumes and special attention is given to scale, materials and detailing. Each unit has a private garage level with abundant storage, a multi-story living area directly adjacent to private outdoor space, and a three-bedroom/two bath second level. A dynamic switch back stair, lit by a clear story, anchors each unit.
